Scientific Background
ARA-290 (cibinetide) is an 11-amino-acid peptide derived from erythropoietin's helix-B region, designed to engage tissue-protective pathways without erythropoietic effects.
It selectively engages the innate repair receptor (IRR), a combination of EPOR and CD131, to encourage anti-inflammatory and tissue-protecting responses. Unlike full EPO, ARA-290 does not stimulate red blood cell production, avoiding related hematological side effects.
Clinical studies have demonstrated benefits for diabetic neuropathy and sarcoidosis-associated small-fiber neuropathy, including improvements in nerve fiber density, pain scores, and metabolic markers.
